Front page Language list

Hi, I found that the first page of Marathi Wiktionary has listed Wiktionaries with more than 100,000 articles. Please arrange to have Tamil included. Thanks for your message. Also, if I want to add words, say new words in Marathi with English and Tamil meanings, I need to know how the Categories are named. For example, do you categorize Marathi nouns as Nouns-Marathi, Nouns-Tamil , Nouns-English (of course using Marathi names like नांव-तामिल ?? ). Please advise. I think I want to add at least 2-3 words per day in Marathi Wiktionary. How do you handle both nouns and verbs on the same page. Also for adjectives. मराठी विक्शनरीची रचना मुख्यत्वे सदस्य श्रीहरींनी केली आहे. नवागतांना मराठी व्याकरणाचा पूर्ण परिचय नसल्यामुळे क्लिष्ट वाटली तरी अधीक flexibility ने फक्त दर्जा खालावेल खरा उपाय मराठी व्याकरण विषयक अधीक लेखन उपलब्ध होणे हाच आहे.

पण खरेतर प्रथम दर्शनीचच क्लिष्ट आहे , नीट पाहिलेत तर श्रीहरींनी मुखपृष्ठावरून दुवे देऊन तयार आराखडे उपलब्ध केले आहेत आणि त्यात केवळ उपलब्ध तेवढी माहिती भरली कि झाले.

विक्शनरी मुखपृष्ठावर दिल्याप्रमाणे कोणत्याही विक्शनरी पानची सुरवात भाषा शीर्ष आराखड्याने होते नंतर शब्दाचा जो प्रकार/जात नाम सर्व नाम इत्यादीतील लागू आराक्खडा चिटकावयाचा आणि शेवटी अंतीम शीर्ष हा आराखड चिटकवायचा सुयोग्य उपलब्ध माहिती भरली कि झाले काम .Mahitgar ०८:२८, १३ ऑगस्ट २०१० (UTC)

New words added

Hi, would you please check out the 14 or so new words I've added (Marathi, Tamil and English). I realize, that all of these have to be added to proper categories. Please advise me what words I should use to categorize Marathi nouns, Tamil nouns, English nouns and similarly their verb, adjective and adverb forms. I know verb is क्रियापद and noun is नाम etc. and there could be internal subclassification. The point is what words are to be used exactly for categorizing different language terms (including Marathi). Categories are very

multilingualism

Wiktionaries are multilingual in the sense we take words from all the languges and article explaining its grammar has to be in Marathi language so after due discussion we accept खोपडी as a marathi word or not still there will be separate article for खोपडी (हिंदी) at marathi wikipedia. Simillerly Hindi/english all wiktionaries are going to have marathi words only the explanations will be in their own language.

I suppose you have visited english language wiktionary by now , if not try making some entries there too , so it will give you better view of Wiktionary project as a whole Mahitgar ०८:२०, १४ ऑगस्ट २०१० (UTC)

Yes, what Mahitgar says is very right! In fact where I was quite sure I've added Marathi words a few places (2-3) in English Wiktionary. I'll point to those, here, so that some of you can also check them out. See for dog, and for ear. It is not my intention to extensively add Marathi words on English Wiktionary, but only a few places where I'm quite sure. I'm planning on adding at least 1000 Marathi words in Tamil Wiktionary. Hi Prasannakumaar, thanks for your suggestions and willingness to help. I hope it is okay to converse in English. Although I know to read Marathi and understand a tiny bit, I can't compose and write except a few words. So kindly excuse me for writing in English (I've no other choice at present). I know Marathi ळ and I'll use it for Tamil. What is the pronounciation of ऴ that is a ळ with a dot under it (would it be ழ ??). About काल and काळ I know the difference, however, for pronounciation with Devanagari script, the word kaal (meaning leg in Tamil is pronounced exactly as काल. The word Devanagari काळ exactly (pronounciation-wise)= காள் (and not காழ்). Hereafter I'll use तमिळ for Tamil. I can read Devanagari fairly well (occasionally I have difficulty in reading samyuktaakshara because the stacked letters are not clear enough and I have to enlarge them to see, but I know to read samyuktaakshara, I should add fairly well, not perfectly). I was quite surprised to learn that kai is used the way you said (thanks!): you said, btw even in Marathi Kai is used to denote Hands,its associated with hand related things,Kaichi(Scissor),Kaiwaari (Who literally gives hands to help)etc.. Formatting

Let us discuss this tomorrow (Canada time). I would like to suggest some formats similar to the ones we use in Tamil Wiktionary, but I'm not sure it would be preferred by Marathi wiktionarians. I feel, it may be important to classify the words into languages and even within languages whether they are nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverns, interjections, interogrative pronouns etc. And further , under each language nouns can be subdivided into sections like animals, baody-parts etc. There are many advantages for such classifications. But I don't know the best words to use in Marathi. I'm quite serious in adding about 1000 words to Marathi Wiktionary. Anywhere 3-6 words per day I'll try to add (some days I may manage 10 words). मुखपृष्ठ तुम्हाला बदलता यावे म्हणून त्याचा सुरक्षा स्तर तात्पूरता बदलल्याचे तुम्ही पाहिलेच असेल , मुखपृष्ठात बदल करण्यास हरकत नाही पण मुखपृष्ठावरील बदल सहसा आधी wictionary:धूळपाटी/मुखपृष्ठ येथेच करावयाचे आणि बरेच बदल करून संबधीत चर्चा पानावर इतर सदस्यांची सहमती घेऊन करावयाचे असतात, खासकरून हा आपला पहिलाच अनुभव असल्याने तसे केलेले बरे।

२) विक्शनरीत काहीच नाही त्या पेक्षा काहितरी येऊ द्या काहिही येऊ द्या हे तात्पुतरत्या स्वरूपात ठिक आहे। इतर बर्‍याच ऑनलाईन डिक्शनरी उपलब्ध झालेल्या असताना केवळ शब्दार्थ उपलब्ध करणारी अजून एक ऑनलाईन डिक्श्नरी या ओळख एक तर पुरेशी नाही।

त्याही पेक्षा महत्वाचे सविस्तरपणा नसेल ना वाचकांना उपयोगाची (कारण इतर आधीच आहेत) ना विकिपीडियास उपयोगी कारण भाषांतरे करताना नवीन पारिभाषिक शब्द बनवून वापरावयाची वेळ येते तेव्हा "कठीण समये कोण कामास येतो ? ना ईतर ऑन लाईन डिक्शनर्‍या ना विक्शनरी ' अशा स्थ्त्तीत काय हशील आहे ? शिवाय मराठी लोकांनी भाषाशास्त्राचा अभ्यास फार कमी केला आहे विक्शनरी हे तांत्रीक दृष्ट्या त्यांच्या मराठी भाषेच्या उच्चतर अभ्यासाकरिता चांगले साधन ठरण्याची कुवत विकि सॉफ्टवेअर मध्ये आहे आणि बॉट सारख्य इतर बर्‍याच सुविधांचा लाभ त्यांना येथे घेता येईल शेवटी मराठी भाषेला शॉर्टकट मारण्यात काही फायदा आहे असे मला वाटत नाही। आणि शेवटी हा विषय चावडीवर माडून अधीक सविस्तर चर्चा करून घेता येईल नाही असे नाही।

• प्रचालक विनंती

श्रीहरी ऍक्टिव्ह असण्याचा नसण्याचा तुम्हाला प्रचालक अधिकार मिळण्याशी संबंध नाही दोन्ही स्वतंत्र गोष्टी आहेत। श्रीहरी किंवा प्रचालक ऍक्टीव्ह नसतील तर वेगळा प्रस्ताव मांडून त्यांना प्रचालक पद सोडण्याची विनंती करता येते पण त्यांच्या सारखा दुसरा व्याकरण तज्ञ मराठी विक्शनरीस अद्याप लाभला नाही तेव्हा त्या बद्दल आताच घाई करण्याची आवशकता आहे असे नाही।

तुमच्या प्रचालकपदा करिता म्हणत असाल तर तात्पुरत्या ३ एक महिन्याच्या प्रचालक पदा करिता अर्ज करून ते एकदाचे अनुभवून पहा, त्या वाचून काहीच कामे अडत नाहीत हे लक्षात आल्यावाचून रहाणार नाही पण अनुभवाचे बोल चांगले। तापुरते एवढ्याकरिता कि काही खोलींचा अंदाज तुम्हाला अद्याप आलेला नाही।

विकिपीडिया आणि सहप्रकमल्पांच्या दृष्टीने सर्व नवीन प्रचालक होऊ इच्छित मंडळींनी ट्रांसलेट विकिवर काही संपादने करणे जरूरी आहे असे मला वाटावयास लागले आहे, एकदा प्रचालकपद हाती आहे म्हटल्यावर त्या ट्रांसलेटविकिकडे कुणी प्रचालक वळून पहाण्यास तयार होत नाहीत असा अनुभव होत आला आहे,त्या पेक्श्ःआ आधी जाऊन दोनचारतरी संपादने तेथे करून यावे हे बरे।

विक्शनरीच्या प्रचालक होऊ इच्छित दृष्टीने दुसरी महत्वाची गोष्ट मराठी व्याकरण/भाषाशास्त्र संदर्भाने पनास एक तरी संपादने मराठी विकिपीडियावर पार पाडावीत असे वाटते त्याने दोन गोष्टी साधतील प्रचालकांना स्वतःसच मराठी व्याकरण तोंड ओळखही नाही असे नको, आताशी सेल्वाच शब्दांच्या व्याकरणातील उपप्रकारांच्या बद्दल माहिती मागत आहेत तर देण्यास उत्तर नाही अशी स्थिती आहे, दुसरेतर कितीही रूक्ष वाटला तरी मराठी व्याकरणाच्या आणि भाशास्त्राच्या पुढील स्तरातील माहीती विकिवर अथवा आंतरजालावर उपलब्ध होत नाही तोवर प्रत्यक्षात मराठी विकिपीडियाचे गाडे बरेच अडणार आहे, तर किमान यामुळेतरी मराठी व्याकरण/भाषाशास्त्र लेखांना काही तरी पुढे ढकेलणे होईल।

तीसरी बाब तांत्रीक सुधारणा साधण्याच्या दृष्टीने आपण इंग्रजी विकिपीडियास भेट देऊन दोनचारतरी संपादने करून पाहावी अशी विनंटि केली होती त्या अनुभवा बद्दल कल्पना दिल्यास अधिक बरे होईलMahitgar ०७:२४, १६ ऑगस्ट २०१० (UTC)

एडिटर बदलावयास हवा पण ते करण्यापूर्वी यूजेबिलिटी इनिशिएटीव्ह करिता नवी त्वचा येणार हि व्हेक्टर त्वचा व्यवस्थीत लागल्यानंतर एडिटर मध्ये सुधारणाकरू कारण आधी केल्यातर वाया जातील। यूजेबिलिटी इनिशिएटीव्ह व्यवस्थित पूर्णत्वास जाण्यासाठी ट्रांसलेटविकिवर मराठी भाषांतरकरांनी पोहोचावे या साठी केवळ टाहो फोडण्या पलिकडे तरणोपाय नाही।

तमिळ श्ब्द

कृपया तमीळ शब्दांचे (आणि इंग्रजी हिंदी संस्कृत) सोडून इतर परभाषि शब्दांचे किमान मराठी उच्चारणे आणि मराठी अर्थ नोंदवावेत ,बाकीचे व्याकरण नंतर नोंदवले तरी चालेल। मी मी म्हणणारे संपादक पाहिले आहेत, प्रत्येकजण कालांतराने थकतो, आपल्या आणि सेल्वांच्या माघारी दुसरे कुणी तमीळ तज्ञ उपलब्ध न झाल्यास लेख पडीत राहतील म्हणून हि काळजी आवर्जून घ्यावी असे वाटते।

दुसरी महत्वाची गोष्ट केवळ मराठी भाषी शब्द लेखातच इतरभाषी (आणि इंग्रजी) समानार्थी शब्द नोंदवावेत। तमीळ शब्दाचे इंग्रजी अर्थ देण्याचे काम मराठी विक्शनरीचे नाही-ते इंग्रजी विक्शनरीचे काम आहे। (अगदी चपखल मराठी शब्द(व्याख्या) मिळणे इंग्रजी शिवाय देणे शक्यच नसेल तरच अपवाद करावा) ते रिकामे इंग्रजी करिता रिकामे परिच्छेद आराखडे सुद्धा सोडू नयेत, मराठी न येणारी विक्शनरीची रचना न समजणारी इतर तमीळ मडळी त्यात इंग्रजी भरतच जातील असे होणे अपेक्षीत नाही।

इंग्रजी विक्शनरीतील तंमीळ शब्द , मराठी विक्शनरीतील तमीळ शब्द आणि तमीळ विक्शनरीतील तमीळ शब्द यांचे आंतरविक्शनरी दुवे देता येतील (नव्हे बॉट्स कडून हे काम उत्साहाने चालतच असते अधून मधून तपासावे एवढेच) । त्यामुळे इंग्रजीत त्यातमीळ शब्दास काय म्हणतात ते डावीकडे दिसणार्‍या आंतरविकिदुव्यातून जाऊन त्पासता येते तेव्हा मराठी विक्शनरीत तमीळ शब्दा करिता इंग्रजी किंवा इतर भाषी विभाग ठेवू नये Mahitgar १३:५७, १६ ऑगस्ट २०१० (UTC)

आपण मराठी शब्द लेखातही इंग्रजी तामीळ इत्यादी स्वतंत्र परिच्छेद बनवले आहेत तेही टाळावेत मी वर नमुद केल्याप्रमाणे आंतरविक्शनरी दुव्यांची व्यवस्था अस्ताना तो विनाकारण होणारा कालापव्यय आणि मराठी विक्शन्रीतील मराठीच्या प्राधान्य देण्याच्या उद्देशाचे नुकसान आहे। विभाग मराठीच्या विवीध बोलींकरिता असावे यास हरकत नाही। मराठी शब्द एखाद्या परभाषेत कसा लिहिला जाईल , आणि परभाषेतील त्याचा चपखल समानार्थी शब्द कोणता एवढेच हवे । उदाहरणार्थ उजवा शब्दाच्या लेखात तमीळ समानार्थी शब्द வலது नोंदवावा, उजवा शब्दाच्या लेखात வலது चा उच्चार देण्याच्या भानगडीत पडू नये । வலது करिता मराठी विक्शनरीत स्वतंत्र लेख असणार आहेच तेथेच வலது चा उच्चार द्यावा सोबत ध्वनी संचिका उपलब्ध असल्यास तिहीही வலது लेखातच जोडावी आणि आयपीए उच्चारण लेखन उपलब्ध असेल तर तेही उत्तमच Mahitgar १४:१६, १६ ऑगस्ट २०१० (UTC)

मला तमीळ विक्शनरी चा फॉर्मॅट माहित नाही पण तो आपण करत आहात त्या प्रमाणे असेल तर टाळावा। तमीळ विक्शनरी मोठी असेल पण सर्वात मोठ्या चार-पाच विक्शनरीत नाही नंतर प्रॉब्लेम्स येतील आणि सुधारण्यास अजुन अधीक वेळ असे काही करावे लागेल पेक्षा, माझा इंग्रजी विक्शनरीत योगदानकरून बघण्याचा आग्रह मनावर घ्यावा हि नम्र विनंती Mahitgar १४:२२, १६ ऑगस्ट २०१० (UTC)

आंतर विक्शनरी दुवे

विक्शनरी रचनेत आतरभाषी विक्शनरी दुव्यांचे काम विकिपीडियाप्रमाणे चालत नाही हे लक्षात घ्यावे। इंग्रजी विक्शनरीस भेटू देऊन फ्रेंच आणि इतर मोठ्या विक्शनरींचे आंतरविक्शनरी दुवे कसे दिले आहेत हे अभ्यासावे ।

उदाहरणार्थ வலது शब्दा चा अर्थ उजवा/उजवी होतो तर मराठी विक्शनरीतील उजवा/उजवी शब्दाचा आंतरविक्शनरी दुवा तमीळ किंवा इतरभाषी विक्शनरीतील வலது शब्दास देऊ नये । इतर सर्व भाषी विक्शनरीत வலது चा आंतरविक्शनरी दुवा வலது लाच गेला पाहिजे। आणि "उजवा" शब्दाचा आंतरविक्शनरी दुवा तामीळ विक्शनरीतील उजवा ला इंग्लिश विक्शनरीतील उजवा ला हिंदी विक्शनरीतील उजवा ला याप्रमाणे आतंरविक्शनरी दुवेकरण होणे अभिप्रेत आहे Mahitgar १४:०५, १६ ऑगस्ट २०१० (UTC)

Convention about English words

Do you have any conventions about using capital letters for the first letter. I noticed that you had converted (and redirected) the page I created for deer as Deer. I want to follow your conventions. In Tamil Wiktionary, we use small letters for all english words with few exeptions. In English Wiktionary too they us small letters see deer. I've created the word for neck using small letter at the beginning. Standard formats for words

Please take a look at the recent words I've created in Marathi, English and Tamil. I'm not sure this format would be okay with Marathi Wiktionarians. Please advise me for the acceptability of such formats. I notice that many words created in this Wiktionary, earlier, are not following any one standard. I do not want to violate any community rules or conventions and what I've created is only for testing the formats. I would greatly appreciate your input. I'm copying this to Prasannakumar too. I saw a message with IP address, but I am guessing that it may be from you. Thank you. There is no hurry and pressure. Let us do it as it well, rather than in a hurry or with pressure. I want to again thank you and Prassankumar for your help. The two things I wanted to know were (1) Can I proceed the way I've been doing with गळा, நாக்கு, neck? (2) how do I categorize words? Especially like Tamil nouns, Tamil verbs, Marathi nouns, Marathi nouns-animals, Marathi nouns-bodyparts etc. These categorizations would help to automatically collect useful items together. For example if you go to Tamil nouns] of English Wiktionary you know the words listed there. I believe it would be a good idea to design the categories in a intuitively ststematic way (language first, then category of the word (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs) and if needed further subdivisions such as nouns-animals, nouns-bodyparts, nouns-law, nouns-administrative, nouns-science, nouns-medicine etc.). It is best to do it early on and to describe it in some page so that others can follow or refer to. Thanks for your kind attention. Please don't feel pressured to answer my questions. तुम्ही विक्शनरीकडे लक्ष देत आहात हे कौतुकास्पद आहे. तेथे तर संपादकांची विकपीडियापेक्षा वानवा आहे. नवीन मुखपृष्ठाबद्दल माझ्या (सडेतोड) नोंदी -

१. चित्रे नाहीत.

२. भरपूर माहिती आहे.

३. या माहितीची अजून नीट मांडणी व्हावी. आत्ता खूपच गर्दी-गर्दी वाटत आहे.

४. एखाद्या चांगल्याप्रकारे लिहिलेल्या शब्दाचे मुखपृष्ठ सदर करावे म्हणजे विक्शनरी हा प्रकार काय आहे, कसे करावे हे सोदाहरण स्पष्ट होईल.

तसेच काही महिन्यांपूर्वी माहितगार, श्रीहरी, इ. जाणकार मंडळींनी विक्शनरीवर लेख कसे असावे याचा आराखडा तयार केला होता. नवीन अनेक शब्दांचे लेख तयार करण्यापूर्वी जर असलेले लेख या आराखड्यात आणता आले तर ते अतिउत्तम होईल. असे करणे विकिपीडियापेक्षा विक्शनरीवर गरजेचे आहे कारण विक्शनरीवर एकच (किंवा मोजकेच) आराखडे असतील. जर हा आराखडा पक्का बसवला तर सदस्य अजून वेगवेगळे आराखडे तयार करणार नाहीत. यासाठी विक्शनरी: आदर्श मांडणी क्रम हे पान पहावे, तसेच मुंगी हा शब्दही पहावा.

तुमच्याकडून असाच उपक्रम चालू रहावा अशी आशा. मदत लागली तर मागालच.

About letters for non-Devanagari script languages, you can take a look at French Wiktionary (they have a way of representing all scripts; it may be more extensive than we intend to have at present, but just thought I should point out); of course we can add later. Hi Prasannakumar, I'll be resuming soon. Just want to let you know. In the meantime, I think the subheadings in the form of bands look nice except that if the font size is reduced to 10pt (from the current 14pt) it would be better in my view. I think it is too big at present. Tonight, our Canadian time I'll come add at least a few words, to get it resumed. Some comments

1. I don't know why English and Hindi Translations are provided for the Tamil Words (for example see

செவி (ear). It is important to give ONLY Marathi equivalent. If someone wants to know, they will learn through Marathi. The Hindi and English and other language Wiktionaries would provide their translations. So kindly do not include translations for non-Marathi words in any language other than Marathi. This is the practice in respective language Wiktionaries.

1. The page format seems very redudant to me For example for செவி, we have,

• देवनागरीत :चेवि
• शब्दोच्चार :चेवि
• समानार्थी : कर्ण
• शब्दार्थ :செவி = कान
• व्याकरण : नाम

I don't see why we have देवनागरीत :चेवि and शब्दोच्चार :चेवि. Will they be different anywhere? Perhaps they could be. Please let me know. This seems redudant. Similarly there is no need for समानार्थी, and it can be given as an alternative word, like शब्दार्थ :செவி = कान, कर्ण and (we don't need the Tamil form there either). If you need व्याकरण : नाम, that is okay, but grammatical terms can also be provided within brackets). In other words a simplified and USEFUL page structure would be more appealing (just my views). I'll do as you all desire. If you wish, I can make a sample page (as a test case ) and if you all approve, I'll create words in that format. The words I'll be adding will be not just Tamil words but other language words as well including Marathi, Engish, Malayalam, Bengali and Hindi for example. I know my more active input is getting delayed by these questions for me. If you wish me to create a sample page for Tamil and English, I do it. For Marathi words, I am sure you may wish to have more detailed structure (even there, as simplified and less redudant form as possible) would be most useful for the users. If they are too cluttered and too specialist-oriented, its usefulness would diminish imo. All the specialist info can be added within a page in a section (within the page) which can be optional, so that those who are interested can create there and read there. A new user-contributor can create the simplified page creation and it can grow as time goes (with additional information, but without compromising the simplified information there as the first part of the page). Dear Prasannakumar , I would still strongly recommend that you give little preference to add few (Atleast a hundred) entries on english wiktionary

here you can see C.R.Selvakumar contributions at en wiktionary, Besides making entries in French,German,Spanish,Latin,Greek,Arabic,Urdu,Farsi,Sanskrit,Pali,Hindi etc. will help us in long run a lot.

Besides do search for good help pages from en wiktionary which can be imported to Marathi Language wiktionary.These pages can be translated using google translator toolkit so you will get used to practical needs of the translators.
